General Description
The Human Resource Centre is located on the first floor of the existing accommodation, and so issues of 'loading up' the existing in-situ concrete, together with 'cutting in' the roof of the new structure to the existing were of paramount importance. In addition to the above, aesthetic issues were a factor, as the new build element of the scheme needed to match the existing building, utilising the same palette of materials.
Construction characteristics
The existing building is constructed of an in-situ concrete frame with brick panels and a reconstituted slate roof. The portion of the building is comprised largely of a timber framed structure, to reduce weight. As a result of the above, the internal partition walls carry the roof, and the amount of structural steel within the building was minimised. The scheme was let in a tradition manner. |
