The building consists of an existing three-storey concrete frame accommodating Hospitality and Teaching Spaces and a new steel frame housing a 400-seat Auditorium. The site is located within the existing campus and is surrounded by various college buildings and car parks with some landscaped areas. Safe pedestrian access for staff and students was maintained at all times with over 2,000 people attending on a daily basis. The project comprised the construction of a new multi-purpose Lecture Theatre incorporating a Hospitality / Box Office area, WC Facilities, Auditorium and Teaching Areas. The building works included full Mechanical & Electrical installations together with specialist sound and lighting systems in the auditorium. The works comprised a new steel-framed building tied into an existing steel frame at one end (with a substantial amount of concrete repair works required to the existing frame). Both were clad with a Trespa Rainscreen cladding system with aluminium windows and automatic entrance doors. In the multi-functional Auditorium, the seats may be folded away to provide a Dance Space or Examination Room. |
